A reputed company, headquartered in Belgium, affiliated with the aeronautics, defense and space sectors is on the lookout for a ‘Calculation Engineer & Project Manager’ to join their ranks.
GENERAL MISSION OF THE DESIGN OFFICE

1.     Develop new products and production parameters in line with customer requirements (technical, cost, deadlines),  While ensuring technical feasibility and contributing to product profitability for the company.

2.     Consistently evaluate and enhance the manufacturing processes and products of existing products in close collaboration with production.

3.     Enhance the company’s understanding of composite materials (thermosets and thermoplastics) in terms of materials and processes.

 

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS REQUIRED

1.     Experience and Training

2.     Civil or industrial mechanical engineer or equivalent technical background

3.     Ideally, familiarity with composite materials (thermosetting polymers, glass, and carbon fibre) and their processing techniques

4.     Understanding of finite element analysis for the mechanical dimensioning of composite parts

5.     Familiarity with Siemens NX software is preferred

6.     Proficiency in CATIA software, including volume, surface, assembly, and drawing capabilities, is required

7.     Ideally, possess a comprehensive understanding of EN9100 and its practical applications

MAIN ACTIVITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

·       Submitting an offer to a customer

o   Conduct a thorough analysis and comprehension of the customer’s requirements and expectations in terms of technical specifications (performance, dimensions, tolerances), aesthetics, and deadlines.

o   Provide the sales representative with the requisite information to populate the study section of the offer and guarantee that these inputs are adhered to and honoured in the event that the customer’s order is fulfilled.

 

·       Create a summary of the study phase of commercial and research projects that is in accordance with the customer’s requirements and includes the proposed solutions. This summary should be internally validated by other parties, including production, project, and sales

 

·       Conduct technical studies on commercial and research projects in close collaboration with the project manager and production, while adhering to the customer’s specifications, the project schedule, and allocated costs. This includes proposing enhancements to quality, costs, deadlines, processes, and methods.

Deviations (and, prior to that, concerns regarding deviations) from any estimates must be promptly communicated to the project manager

 

·       Ensure that all manufacturing resources specified in the study are available and fully operational during the transition to production.

 

·       Throughout the manufacturing process (prototypes, pre-production, industrial series):

o   Acquire approvals and feedback from the customer and production

o   Analyse this feedback

o   Design and implement improvements as needed

o   Draw lessons for future projects

 

·       Manage contacts with partners / subcontractors

o   Prepare reports and/or specifications for partners, including the identification of the means of receiving purchases, analyse the proposals received, select the most well-positioned subcontractors, and place the requisite orders.

o   Ensure that purchases are received in a timely manner and meet the necessary quality standards by monitoring partners and subcontractors.

o   Provide the ss-contractor management/selection system real-time input and consider this information when selecting ss-contractors

·       Develop expertise in the specific design of parts in composite materials

o   A comprehensive understanding of composites and their applications (including the selection of the appropriate laminate for each application)

o   A clear understanding of the composite’s strengths and limitations, and the ability to incorporate these characteristics into product design proposals

o   Monitoring the potential of alternative manufacturing methods and suggesting more comprehensive investigations when required o Comprehending the capabilities and constraints of the organization’s transformation processes and incorporating them into the design of production and processes

·       Develop skills in finite-element dimensioning of composite parts

o   Understand and define a specification in accordance with the requirements of the customer

o   Be capable of dimensioning composite parts for design purposes

o   Set up a 3D simulation
