Overview
We are looking for a versatile, reliable, and conscientious individual with experience in web development and system administration, who is willing to work as part of a team to support a non-profit scientific, engineering and socio-economic research think-tank that aims to harness science to benefit the vulnerable and the environment. A person who possesses a Diploma in Graphics, Computer Science, Information Technology or equivalent experience is preferred.
ESSENTIAL IT SKILLS:
- Scientific programming languages
- Competency in image processing and other scientific software
- Proficiency in Graphics and Publishing Suites (CS5 or CorelDraw)
- Attention to detail
- English writing skills
USEFUL RELATED SKILLS:
- Quality writing in English
- Ability to learn quickly as needed.
- Documentation, record keeping and communication skills
- Ability to help less skilled staff.
- Proficiency in web development software
PREFERRED SKILLS:
- Proficiency in Linux/Unix and other Operating Systems
- SQL query skills in MySQL
- CSS Skills
- Knowledge in JavaScript and Ajax like frameworks
- Word press content management system
- HTML Skills
- PHP & MySQL Skills
- Aesthetic sensibility in web development.
- PC hardware and system administrator Skills
A person with good interpersonal skills, adaptability and flexibility and the ability to handle duties in different areas is the best fit. The motivated individual who can complete these tasks will have the opportunity to undertake scientific computing research in collaboration with qualified scientists, social scientists as well as other staff.

FECT brings together 20 scientists whose activities cover some of the Indian Ocean Islands and its littoral. We began researching and developing climate and environmental analysis, computation, monitoring, and prediction technologies in Sri Lanka.
