Overview

Bismark Maritime Limited is one of Papua New Guinea’s leading coastal shipping companies, operating our own port facilities and a fleet of 20 vessels delivering reliable liner and charter services across PNG. We’re looking for an experienced Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to join our executive team in Lae and help drive the next phase of growth and performance.

This is a hands-on, high-impact leadership role in an asset-intensive, operationally complex business—ideal for a commercially astute finance leader who enjoys strategy, execution, and strong stakeholder engagement.

The Opportunity

As CFO, you will partner closely with the CEO and executive team to strengthen financial performance, optimise capital, improve systems, and support smart growth. You’ll lead the finance function while influencing key commercial decisions across fleet operations, port activities, and major contracts.

Critically, you will be the primary contact point for Bismark Maritime’s financiers—leading relationships, reporting, and negotiations to ensure ongoing support and access to capital.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and execute the company’s financial strategy aligned to business objectives
  • Oversee financial reporting, forecasting, budgeting, and performance analysis
  • Drive strong cash flow, liquidity, and capital management across fleet/port operations
  • Serve as the primary relationship lead and point of contact for banks and financiers, including covenant management, reporting, facility negotiations, and funding strategy
  • Build and manage relationships with insurers, investors, and key commercial partners
  • Lead commercial support for major negotiations (suppliers, vendors, insurance, contracts)
  • Evaluate investment opportunities, asset initiatives, and risk/return trade-offs
  • Ensure tax regulatory, statutory, and corporate compliance in PNG
  • Lead ESG compliance and reporting requirements that support financing arrangements, including lender ESG expectations, disclosures, and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing finance and accounting team
  • Improve systems, controls, and processes to support operational efficiency and growth

About You

  • Senior finance leader with proven experience in strategic finance and executive decision support
  • Strong in banking/financier engagement, negotiations, and stakeholder management
  • Highly capable in financial analysis, risk management, cost control, and performance improvement
  • Demonstrated ability to manage lender reporting, covenants, and funding requirements
  • Understanding of ESG frameworks and compliance (as required by lenders/financiers) and ability to embed practical reporting into business operations
  • Confident leader with strong communication and team development skills
  • Experience in shipping, logistics, ports, transport, infrastructure, or other asset-heavy industries is highly regarded
  • CPA/CA/CFA (or equivalent) strongly preferred
  • Degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, or related discipline (postgraduate qualifications advantageous)

What We Offer

  • Executive-level role with real influence across the business
  • Work at the centre of PNG trade and logistics with a major coastal fleet and port operations
  • Expatriate remuneration package available for the successful applicant
  • Opportunity to lead improvement initiatives and help shape the company’s next chapter
