Overview

We are looking for a young and enthusiastic person to join our team as a Tamil & English Non-Fiction Writer / Research Assistant and contribute to an ongoing book research and documentation project at a small non-profit organization.

We are particularly interested in someone with good Tamil and English language skills, curiosity, attention to detail, and a willingness to learn.

Essential Competencies

  • Good Tamil language skills, both written and spoken.
  • Good English language skills, both written and spoken.
  • Interest in writing, journalism, research, and documentation.
  • Ability or willingness to learn how to conduct and document interviews and oral histories.
  • Basic ability to use Microsoft Office and willingness to learn new digital tools for transcription and translation.
  • Interest in Tamil and English literature, with an interest in writing, translation, journalism, or research.
  • Good communication and organizational skills.

Preferred Competencies

  • Experience in writing, journalism, translation, or research.
  • Familiarity with copy-editing or proofreading.
  • Knowledge of additional languages.
  • Familiarity with bibliographic/reference management software.
  • Basic layout or design skills.

This opportunity may suit A/L students or graduates, university students, recent graduates, or young people starting their careers who have a strong interest in writing and research.

About Federation for Environment, Climate and Technology

The Federation for Environment, Climate, and Technology (FECT) is dedicated to developing usable social scientific, and technological data for societal well-being and environmental preservation.  FECT brings together 20 scientists whose activities cover some of the Indian Ocean Islands and its littoral. We began researching and developing of climate and environmental analysis, computation, monitoring, and prediction technologies in Sri Lanka.
