Overview

We are looking for an energetic, detail-minded Operations Assistant to join our small team, reporting directly to the Manager. It’s a hands-on and varied role. One day you might be welcoming guests and checking rooms, and the next you might be helping with a marketing campaign or a property improvement project. It’s an ideal opportunity for someone who wants broad, practical experience in boutique hospitality.

Key responsibilities

Guest experience

  • Meet and greet guests, and coordinate smooth arrivals and departures.
  • Support guest care throughout each stay: respond to requests, anticipate needs and resolve issues promptly.
  • Help gather guest feedback and encourage positive online reviews.

Operations & administration

  • Inspect rooms, the pool, the terrace and common areas daily to ensure they meet our standards.
  • Assist with daily operational and administrative tasks, including bookings, records, guest payments and supplier coordination.
  • Oversee housekeeping and maintenance staff to make sure issues are reported and followed up.

Marketing & business development

  • Assist with marketing activities, such as social media content, online listings and promotions.
  • Support business development by building relationships with local corporate clients, travel partners and event enquiries.
    Improvements
  • Spot opportunities to improve service, guest comfort and the property, and help put them into practice.

What we’re looking for

  • A diploma or degree in Hospitality, Tourism, Business or Marketing, or relevant experience.
  • 1- 2 years’ experience in a hotel, villa, guest house or customer-facing role; enthusiastic fresh graduates are also welcome to apply.
  • Excellent spoken and written English and Sinhala; Tamil is an advantage.
  • Friendly, well-presented and confident with guests.
  • Organised and proactive, with a strong eye for detail.
  • Comfortable with email, MS Office and social media.
  • A team player who is happy to take on varied tasks in a small setting.

Villa Capers is a seven-room boutique bungalow in Colombo 8, with a pool, a large terrace and architecture inspired by Geoffrey Bawa. We have recently renovated the property and are now strengthening our management and service team to match. We welcome a mix of local and international guests, and we aim to give every one of them a warm, personal stay.
