Guide for avoid workaholic

You are committed, you are passionate, you are loyal to your company, your job is fulfilling, your work has become your identity, you spend less time with yourself and your family then I have a question for you to answer. Are you a workaholic? If you are bringing work to home and your weekends are becoming less about you and more about your work, understand the ball in not in your court any more. It’s time for intervention! Your creative soul is dying due to investing long hours in work and skipping vacations too. Too much work can be unrewarding, unhealthy and unproductive. If you want to be happy, you need to strike the right work-life balance. Consider this useful guide if you want to live life you deserve –

You are a human being

Recognize that you are a human being, not a machine. Even machine needs oiling and maintenance from time to time. Understand the importance of good health and invest in maintaining the same.

Everything has its own place

Know your worth and your work are two different things. It is easier to be a workaholic than to have a balanced life wherein everything, every person has its own place and value. It is great that work is an absolute necessity for you but do not make work the only necessity you consider.

Learn time management

Time is the most valuable resource so it is important to spend it wisely. This means essential and non-essential meetings, dedicating time on your calendar to the assigned task and also keeping opportunity costs in mind. Taking daily pause and time outs never hurt anyone. Take a walk in the nature, breathe fresh air or a simple 10-minute meditation can have amazing healing properties. Do whatever makes you feel good inside. Be in the company  of people who have positive attitude towards life. Slow down and strengthen yourself by feeding healthy food to your body.

Learn the skill of delegation

If you know the art of delegating things, you will have more time. A great manager has the expertise to get the things done right on time. If you feel overwhelmed with work, you will never be able to give your best to the work. Understand the team’s strengths and weaknesses, make good use of them. Learn to say “No” and share the workload with others.

Stay in the limits

There is no surprise that sometimes you have to stay late, work on weekends or reply to an email in the wee hours, but do not make it a habit. It is wise to create clear boundaries. This means calling it a day at 6:00 evening, dedicating time to work out during lunch break, not checking your work emails on your phone, keeping weekends reserved for the family.

Working does not only gratify the goal of financial independence, but it also provides a sense of pride. Do what you love and do it well. Maintain a healthy work-life balance.
